And now professional-quality Standard Definition to HD upscaling thanks to our new Blackmagic Design Teranex 2D digital video processor!

One of the things we’re being asked to do by some professional video library archive owners is the ability to take regular standard definition (SD) video clips and upscale them to either 1080p or 720p specification files. The Teranex is widely regarded as being the best in its class for video format conversion – and that’s why it’s now specified by broadcasters, production companies and video/film libraries the world over.

We hope to post actual examples of converted video sequences soon, but as a taster here’s a graphic we’ve created to give you an idea of how good the Teranex is when converting, in real time, a standard definition PAL Digital Betacam master tape to a Quicktime ProRes422 [HQ] file at 1080p/50 spec for editing in Apple Final Cut Pro.

Need digitised files for video editing instead? Prices start at £20.00 plus VAT.

We can digitise your recordings into a computer (using a separate process to the direct-to-DVD transfer service) and export clip files as either Apple Quicktime MOV (Uncompressed or Compressed) (for Apple Mac), Quicktime DV-MOV, Microsoft DV-AVI, etc, using a wide variety of codecs (including Apple ProRes422 for editing in Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro, Avid Media Composer, (etc). We’re equipped to capture analogue video sources as 8-bit or 10-bit Uncompressed YUV or RGB Quicktime MOV files, 10-bit AVI or even sequenced DPX if you need them for editing. Captures are made on Apple Mac systems and can be written to your Thunderbolt, FireWire 800 or USB 2.0 drive as required. Using our industry-standard Blackmagic Design Teranex 2D converter/processor, we can also upscale your SD footage to 720p, 1080i or 1080p files, too.

Cost: Prices for digitised tape transfer (minimum one hour) can be found here. Cost of additional storage media (Eg: HDD, Memory Card) subject to quotation. We can, if you require it, produce lower resolution preview files as MPEG-4 which we’ll upload via a file transfer service like WeTransfer or YouSendIt free of charge.
